Alliance of Independent Reps Launches "Spot in a Pocket" Commercial Filmmaking Contest

The Alliance of Independent Reps (AIR) is excited to announce the launch of Spot in a Pocket – a new creative challenge open to filmmakers of all ages and experience levels. In the contest, participants shoot a short commercial solely on a smartphone, thereby creating a platform for storytelling without the help of a large budget. The spec commercial can be any style or genre, and participants can use any editing platform.
Participants can choose to create a 30-second commercial for a real or imaginary brand for one of the following categories and objects: healthcare (prompt/object: thermometer), finance (prompt/object: wallet), sports (prompt/object: whistle), or household (prompt/object: mop).
Submissions will be judged on storytelling and production value by a jury of agency and production professionals. The contest opens on Monday, August 4th, and closes on Friday, September 19th. The winning director will receive a one-year subscription to Agency Source database, three free career consultation sessions with AIR members, and a profile feature story in Little Black Book and The Howler by Simian. The showcase of all entrant work will take place on Monday, October 6th; more information will be provided ahead of time.
Spot in a Pocket builds on AIR’s history of championing emerging talent. This year’s challenge is open to everyone, with no age minimums or background restrictions. Whether a student, professional, or enthusiast, all are welcome! AIR aims to provide easier access to the commercial production space, spotlighting undiscovered voices and proving that great ideas can come from anywhere.
