BUTTER Music and Sound Adds Composer David Senécal

BUTTER Music and Sound has engaged Montréal-based composer and sound designer David Senécal to expand the company's global presence to include the Canadian market.

Overseen by both BUTTER Executive Producers Annick Mayer (West Coast North America) and Renée Massé (East Coast North America), Senécal joins the roster after working as a longtime collaborator with the studio on successful campaigns for Aveeno, Qualcomm, Juvéderm, One Love Foundation, Samsung, and more.

David is a classically trained pianist and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. He brings a diverse musical background to his work, weaving pop, post-modern, and contemporary influences into his classical compositions and crafting immersive sonic experiences across all media. Upon returning to BUTTER, where he first started as an intern, David is poised to make a significant impact on the company's Canadian operations.

Notes Massé, “When I started at BUTTER six years ago, David was one of my first interns, and he immediately caught my attention with his passion, creativity, kindness, and talent. Given Annick and my French-Canadian roots, expanding into Québec and Canada has forever been a dream for BUTTER, and I’ve always known David would be the one to make that dream a reality with. We are beyond thrilled to have him on board.

Adds David Senécal, “Joining Butter in this new chapter feels like coming home. I started my career here years ago, and now I get to help grow its presence in the Canadian market — surrounded by so many artists and creatives I admire. It’s a chance to keep telling stories through sound, but on a bigger scale.”

Before joining BUTTER, David honed his craft at Studio BULLDOG, working with Canadian brands such as Fido, Brunet, BELL, Cozey, and Opera, amongst others. Beyond branded content, David's work spans 30 audiobooks, numerous television shows, short film The Bingo Sisters (2024), and feature-length film Talk Soon (2020), directed by Joey Massa. Talk Soon screened at the Boden International Film Festival, Queer Film Festival, and Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, winning awards at each of these venues and several others. Additionally, he co-scored the feature film Lovely Day(2025) with Martin Leon, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

As a multifaceted artist, he also writes and performs his own music under the moniker MERLYN. While building upon this collection of compositions and scores for fellow Canadian artists, he has amassed a network of international vocal and musician talent that will reinforce BUTTER’s expanding roster.
