Hydrogen Advertising Associate Creative Director Tim O’Neill has been promoted to Creative Director. His new role builds on his strong track record with the Seattle-based independent agency; as CD, he will continue his creative and account leadership and collaborate on new business initiatives alongside Hydrogen co-owner and Chief Creative Officer Michael McGrath.
Tim found his career path in songwriting, working with legendary artists to bring their creative visions to life. Recognizing his transferrable skills, his songwriting partner suggested he take a stab at copywriting. The role fit; songwriting connects artists with fans and copywriting connects brands with their audience. His love for the written word comes from wanting to start real conversations with audiences—talking with people, not at them. That pivot launched a career in advertising that now spans well over 20 years.
After cutting his teeth in the industry with agencies BreadnButter, Dentsu, and WPP, he began the freelance life—until Hydrogen came along. One project was all it took to sign him up.
“Getting an opportunity to work with Mary [Knight, President of Hydrogen Advertising] and Michael has been a breath of fresh air,” says O’Neill. “The freedom those two have given me to explore and grow has made all the difference. ”
“His background certainly gives him the knowledge and talent that makes his creativity a great fit with Hydrogen, but moreover, his work ethic and amicability shine through his work with our team and clients,” adds McGrath. “He has more than earned this Creative Director position, and we foresee amazing work from him in the future.”
O’Neill’s creativity doesn’t stop with work. Outside the office, he continues his songwriting journey with a soon-to-be-released record, five years in the making with his high school best friend.
