MakeMake welcomes editor Tobias Suhm to its illustrious roster of multidisciplinary artists. Whether he’s cutting a comedic, dialogue-heavy, or fantastical film, or something grounded and emotional, Suhm’s knack for storytelling and adaptability across genres has made him a highly sought-after editor.
Growing up in Germany, Suhm was inspired by Steven Spielberg’s films, anime, and Hong Kong action movies of the ’80s and ’90s, a creative spark that led him to Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
He began his editing career in Berlin, where his eye for precision met his love of filmmaking, and eventually landed in Los Angeles. In every project, Suhm relishes the chance to bring something unexpected to the table that surprises and delights his collaborators. He’s as adept at editing practical in-camera effects and complex VFX sequences as he is at cutting music videos and straightforward commercial spots, and his portfolio reflects that range.
Suhm has worked with some of the industry’s biggest brands, including Google, Netflix, Nike, Coca-Cola, Xbox, Mercedes-Benz, Disney, and Gucci. He frequently collaborates with director Ian Pons Jewell, cutting films for Apple, Squarespace, and Coors, as well as Beardyman’s “6 AM (Ready to Write),” which won Best Dance Video at the UK Music Video Awards. His work has also been recognized at award shows including AICP, Ciclope, Cannes Lions, the Clios, and the One Show.
“The most important thing for me was the people,” Suhm says about his recent move to MakeMake. “I love the outlook MakeMake has about the future and the work they do, but most importantly I felt instant chemistry with everyone I met from the company. They all felt like old friends from the very beginning. Everyone seemed genuinely happy, which made it easy for me to make the move.”
Angus Wall, MakeMake’s Founder and CEO, adds, "Tobias’s seamlessly kinetic style of editing gives you the sense that there’s a mad inventor tightening the clockworks inside everything he does. His work is complex and so full of wonderment. What lurks behind his calm exterior? He’s easily one of the most talented editors out there, and he’s one of the loveliest people to work with as well. We’re so thrilled he’s joining our ranks. Welcome to MakeMake, Tobias!"
