Yacht Club Welcomes Directors Megan Gamez and Shanghoon

Directors Megan Gamez and Shanghoon have joined Yacht Club’s growing roster of multi-talented creatives. Passionately focused on crafting sumptuous narratives for brands, each brings a wealth of creative and technical expertise with an emphasis on tantalizing food and beverage campaigns.

Yacht Club Partner / EP, Joe DePasquale, explains: “We worked with Megan on Muscle Milk earlier this year and it was immediately evident how much she loves storytelling and especially how much she shares our passion for food on film. Her style is youthful, colorful, and modern with outstanding performance. It’s exceptional work by an exceptional talent, and we are excited to officially welcome her to Yacht Club.”

“Shanghoon is one of the biggest directing names in Canada for food & beverage for good reason; he is wildly creative and his technical chops are above and beyond,” continues Joe. “Plus, he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

Megan Gamez was raised just outside Los Angeles, where storytelling and craftsmanship were part of her everyday environment. Her father worked on motion picture props for films like Men in Black, Armageddon, and Spider-Man which gave her early, hands-on exposure to the intersection of design, fabrication, and cinematic world-building. That experience instilled in her a deep respect for detail and a belief that every visual element should serve the story, an approach that continues to shape her directing style today. Her early work in music videos pushed her to experiment, trust her eye, and find unexpected ways to create visuals that feel fresh and engaging, shaping a style rooted in rhythm, mood, and striking imagery. That soon led her into commercial work, where she found her sweet spot: merging the energy and aesthetic edge of music videos with the clarity and intention of brand storytelling. Megan is driven by creating visually striking, emotionally resonant work that connects with audiences while elevating the brands behind it.

“I grew up playing with my food,” says Megan. “Turns out, I found a career where I can spend 20 minutes perfecting a cheese pull and call it work. I love the technical side of food shoots, from motion control to LED walls, and the fact that there’s always a new challenge to solve, whether it’s perfecting the lighting or figuring out why that one sesame seed refuses to cooperate. Best of all, I get to make people crave things they weren’t even hungry for five minutes ago. It’s a weirdly satisfying kind of manipulation.”

Born in South Korea, Shanghoon is a director/DP who began his career in still photography, where he developed an eye for cinematic lighting, composition, and the little details that can make an image feel special. Over time, he became increasingly interested in bringing those visual ideas into motion, which led to a prolific career in commercial directing. Shanghoon's ability to visualize small magic moments that evoke big feelings are coupled with an interest in emerging technology’s ability to support filmmaking’s power of wonder and surprise. This unique blend translates into eye-catching campaigns for such clients as Clif Bars, Wendy’s, Coors, Starbucks, and Coca-Cola.

“What attracted me to Yacht Club is the opportunity to be part of an environment that supports both the creative and technical sides of filmmaking,” comments Shanghoon. “I'm always looking for ways to improve, experiment, and push my work further, so having access to a studio and tools to explore new ideas is incredibly valuable. I appreciate being able to collaborate with talented people, exchange ideas, and have the elements to turn concepts into reality. I'm excited about the possibilities of what we can create together.”
