Vagrants and City of Boston Launch Boston 250
With America 250 top of mind this week, the City of Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu recently launched Boston 250 – a citywide initiative commemorating 250 years since the American Revolution began in the city. Tapping local studio Vagrants to lead the creative, the City of Boston didn’t ask to sell a product – it asked the studio to help tell the story of America at 250 through the lens of one of the nation’s most historic cities.
Rather than creating a traditional civic campaign, Vagrants built a narrative almost entirely from archival footage, photography and post-production, proving that government communications can be cinematic, emotionally resonant and culturally relevant.
Primarily using archival footage and historical imagery, the campaign was almost entirely built in post-production. The City of Boston trusted Vagrants with the creative, from concept through completion: making history feel less historical, storytelling over rhetoric, emotion over information.
The campaign reflects Boston current cultural identity, not just its past and also arrives as Boston welcomes global audiences through FIFA, reinforcing themes of openness and international community.
