The Visuals of Tyler, the Creator, Color Graded by Tyler Roth

Tyler, the Creator's unique visual style is as iconic as his music. From the vibrant, pastel tones of ‘LUMBERJACK' and 'JUGGERNAUT' to the warm, golden-copper look of CHROMAKOPIA, these visuals are central to his art. The person behind the color grade is Company 3 Senior Colorist Tyler Roth, whose partnership with Tyler, the Creator began in 2019. This collaboration has since expanded to include fashion films, brand collaborations, and a live performance recording for Amazon, and music videos, such as 'Stop Playing with Me' and 'Sugar on My Tongue’ from his latest album, Don't Tap the Glass.

Tyler, the Creator directs the visual concepts, and Roth helps bring them to fruition through his color grade. For example, Tyler, the Creator had a clear vision for CHROMAKOPIA, asking for a high-contrast, golden-copper film look. Roth executed this vision, also creating an in-color version for the explosion scene and promotional content. Roth's contributions also include crafting the rich oranges and highlights in 'Brown Sugar Salmon' and the sharp contrast between the yellow car and cool blue colors in 'Come On, Let's Go.’

"Working with Tyler Roth over the years has been a consistently great experience. He’s a strong creative partner, especially as we continue to explore new approaches to color,” comments Tara Razavi, Founder and Executive Producer, Happy Place.

The response to their work has always been overwhelmingly positive. Since the CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST album, fans and industry professionals have praised Roth for color grading visuals that perfectly align with Tyler, the Creator's artistic vision. The distinct style of CHROMAKOPIA has been particularly well-received, with many fans saying it enhances their listening experience.

Ultimately, the unique creative synergy between Tyler, the Creator and Roth helps define the work. "Tyler (the Creator) is probably the most creative person I've ever met—a true artist in every sense of the word," Roth concludes. "Working with him and becoming friends over the last six years has been a pleasure. He's a genuine talent, and I love the vast range of projects we've collaborated on together." This partnership, built on mutual respect and a shared passion for innovation, continues pushing visual storytelling's boundaries.
